This rotation was so fun I can't wait until I offer sculpture 2 next year. We went over the basics of the media but learning about Space, Positive and Negative by doing Styrogami, then Form, or how to make objects 3D by making mystery bag sculptures. Lastly we learned about found object assemblages by looking at artwork by Louise Nevelson students loved spray painting their creations. For the final students had a choice of what they wanted to create based on the elements we learned about. I had students using plaster, paper mache, clay, wire, we went through lots and lots and lots of cardboard and tape too!
It's been a great first year at stem saratoga! thank you for all your support......

Mrs. Yourd and I have been collaborating together to hold this Global Arts class this rotation, students learned about, and made art having to do with festivals. We spent the first two weeks learning about Diwalii, we made Rangolis and small clay pots to hold candles.
Next, students chose a festival from around the world to research...the sky was the limit, anything that interested them was encouraged. They created their own webpage and presented an art proposal for an art project that they designed to teach us about their country and festival. We required every student to send a link of their webpage and a photo of their art to their family's emails so watch for those! The last day of the class all the art was presented and students received an art passport to fill out, critiquing their classmate's pieces. Check out some pictures of the fantastic work created. On to the last rotation..Sculpture!
Just a few pictures from our end of rotation trip to Zimmerman Architectural Studios in Milwaukee, for more pictures follow me on twitter Megan David@caboosestudio. Your child should have emailed home their Interior Design Spark Page Portfolio, I was extremely impressed with their work this time around, if you haven't seen their room design and portfolio ask them to share!

This is my second year organizing a show for Downtown Waukesha's May Art Crawl. STEM will be participating this year! I have also invited some other Waukesha's schools to join us as well. It will be such a beautiful show, held in a gallery space downtown to show case our talented student work. Art Club and current class students are already starting their mini drawing piece but everyone is welcome if your student wants to participate come see Mrs David in the Creative Cafe during FLEX or 2nd connect for details! The show will be up for about a week watch for details soon!
We are halfway done with this rotation and I feel like we could expand this class, there's so much to learn and the students are enjoying creating a dream room with a huge budget!
So far we've learned how to draw a room in perspective using vanishing points, they've learned about the design process used by professional interior designers (5 stages..Programming, Concept Development, Presentation, Execution, and Evaluation). Currently they are wrapping up their floor plan to scale, their furniture shopping lists, and color scheme.
Next week, they will be using line and shapes to create their own pattern that they can use for textiles in their dream room and start their final presentation of their room. Students get to choose how they present; some are creating a 3d model of their room others are going to prepare a professional looking presentation board.
Once the classwork is completed watch for an online portfolio link that I am requiring they share with you via email. I think sharing work with family and friends is great confidence booster!
Farewell Art History rotation it was fun and we learned a lot, students were able to explore their artistic interests from the history of art and even look at current day art styles, students then taught the class about them, and showed us an art piece reflecting their interests. Below are some works that were critiqued in class. Additionally, a couple of students submitted artwork for a Statewide art competition showing "flight" Good luck Hannah and Coco!
On to Interior Design starting next week. Dream rooms, color psychology, Feng Shui, design principals, and drawing perspective are just some of the topics we will be covering in the weeks to follow.
