MUSICAL SCHEDULE FOR THE WEEK OF 11/2
GSC NEWS AND HIGHLIGHTS
What an amazing experience our students had last week, as they battled their way through the competition with their Slow-Roll entries. We saw some of the most creative entries ever... and some bottles that the students refused to share their "secret ingredients" with anybody. From kitty-litter mixed with aloe-vera lotion, to hair gel, to oatmeal and oil... the possibilities were endless and so creative and innovative. Our winning bottles are still a secret as far as the contents, but they very slowly rolled down our newly crafted ramps (huge Thank-You to Mr. Hill for building these) at times that exceeded over 2 and 1/2 hours at Saratoga and over 3 hours at Randall! Can you believe that!
When it came to the funds raised, we are still calculating final numbers and looking over company matches that are coming in. We would like to send a HUGE THANK-YOU to everyone who helped raise funds and bring in OVER $18,000 for our STEM students! That is simply amazing and a true sign of the dedication and "All-In" attitude that our families have... that is AWESOME! We will be announcing the winners of each Pizza Party at our two campuses this week also and then working to set up a date/time for each party.
Many parents have asked the question, "What does the money get used for?" and we are excited to share out that we work with our teachers at both sites, to become professional "Mini-Grant" writers and they are actually able to write a grant and apply for the usage of funds. They are asked to write a proposal and tie it directly to student-learning and large-scale projects, that are sustainable. Ideas like the MakerSpace at STEM - Randall and the grow-lab that was purchased for Mr. Osmon's Biology program at STEM - Saratoga, are great examples of purchases that have come from funds raised. Working with staff to see BIG PICTURE ideas at STEM and help them really take student learning experiences to the next level, is the major and main goal of accessing funds. It's a rigorous process and one that really moves edUcation forward.
Check out the Mini-Grant application that teachers are able to utilize to propose an idea.
