Visiting our very own TLX Manufacturing Company: Round-Table discussion with Ron Johnson and Rebecca Kleefisch
spirit week & Manufacturing week gallery
(Check out some pics. from last week and enjoy... we made sure not to miss Mr. Hill's ironing debut at WSA... he charges $5 an hour!)
What an amazing week we had for our first STEM 6.0 SPIRIT WEEK! From supporting great causes, celebrating and investigating National Manufacturing Week, to culminating with an exciting and energy-filled Pep Rally outside... STEM-support filled the air! Each STEM student found their way and their unique place at STEM - Saratoga this past week and was also able to join their Advisory group on Friday, to show their true colors and represent their STEM-spirit, with a specially and uniquely designed Crest. The Crest was then ironed onto a STEM shirt, to show off to all of the STEM student body, as each Advisory group paraded around the circle of cheering groups and chants of STEM... STEM... STEM!!! Our long-term goal is to have these Crests transferred onto life-size flags (actual flags) and hang them throughout the halls of Saratoga, so that every single day students walk up and down the halls, they can show off their school spirit and let people know what Advisory group they represent, as well as see the amazing creativity of the other groups. Talk about building a multi-age community, that doesn't see any boundaries... this is a huge leap into building lifelong relationships.

After a one year hiatus, the GSC (Great STEM Challenge) is back at WSA. What are we doing this year for the GSC? Are you ready... are you sure... are you sitting down? (drum-roll please.....) This year we are bringing back the ORIGINAL... the BEST... the ONE and ONLY... SLOW_ROLL Challenge! This was one of the most monumental events that the Waukesha STEM Academy has ever known and has sparked probably the most phenomenal and frequently talked about winner of all time, along with one of the most amazing statistics that WSA has ever seen! The goal is for students to develop the [secret] contents of a 2-liter bottle, without changing the exterior of the bottle in any way, shape or form... except for the two rubber-bands that they are provided with. The 2-liter bottles are then placed at the top of a seven to nine foot wooden ramp that is set at approximately a 45 degree angle and released... to begin its descent down the ramp... slowly... hence, the SLOW_ROLL Challenge. Chomping at the bit yet? Hold your horses... information is forthcoming, but we just wanted to sprinkle the seeds of excitement and share out a sneak-peak with our WSA families and students today, to get them ready for one of the most STEM-focused, engineering challenges that Waukesha has ever seen. The best part of this event, is that it has helped us bring in such a significant amount of funding, that we were able to spur A TON of student projects and experiences for students ranging from Level 1 to Third Year students at Saratoga. So, not only are students able to help support their "above and beyond" learning experiences with extra funding, but they are able to create something that only they know the secret ingredients to and have a chance to win the title of the SLOW_ROLL CHAMPION and some pretty cool prizes. More importantly, they will have their name engraved on the annual Great STEM Challenge Champion Trophy. That, my friends, is priceless. Now, I know that you can hardly contain your excitement right now, but hang tight... info will be coming out by the end of next week and we will have all of your wonders and inquiries answered with a comprehensive info. sheet and collection envelope. It's time to have some serious Engineering fun! |
