Science Solutions: Current Happenings
The science classes have been working for the past two weeks on identifying a problem that students noticed in society or from their research to solve scientifically. During the research phase, we looked up existing solutions to that problem, so as we design our own solutions, students have a point of reference to consider. In many instances, students have had to work to narrow down their focus to just one small part of the problem they want to try to solve. This past week has been especially important to students, since they have now started to lay out the vision of the their solution and how it will work. Going into spring break, students should know their problem, solution, and how they will model that solution once we return.
Science Solutions: Where We Are Going
Once we return from spring break, students will spend the first week creating their model, whether via computer program or prototype. Students who are planning on creating a prototype (which is optional) should be connecting with parents, since they will be responsible for supplying all needed materials. All supplies and materials should be brought into school the week we return, so students have ample amounts of time to build the prototype. During the second week back, students will be creating a video for their presentation on the processes and research they undertook to solve the problem. We plan on going public the week of April 15th.
For All Rubrics
Since the science solutions unit is sequential based or where the steps of the process have to followed in order, it will be extremely important that students complete their work on time. We will continue to offer For All Rubrics checklists as a method for ensuring all pieces are being completed. However, we encourage parents to have their students show them their work throughout this process. We want to make sure that students have the opportunity to be successful in this unit.
