Welcome to Science! Welcome to another of science at the Waukesha STEM Academy Saratoga Campus. The science team began the year by launching our new science labs. As a way to better utilize the two science labs, the science team has decided to work in teams of two. Mr. Sonier and Mr. Hoffmann will be working with half the students this year in the 120/121 science lab and Mr. Brookins and Mr. Osmon will be working with the other half in the 117/118 science lab. Students schedules reflect which facilitators they are working with this year. We look forward to another year of science here at STEM! |
IQWST Science Curriculum
Science has adopted an updated science curriculum called IQWST. Students will be receiving usernames and passwords to access the online resources. The IQWST portal will be the place to review the readings, prepare for activities, and find the questions that students will be expected to answer. Over the course of the year, students will experience three IQWST units, an inquiry project, and science fair project. The first IQWST unit students will experience is “Where Have All the Creatures Gone?” We anticipate wrapping the unit up towards the end of October, before launching our inquiry unit.
Work Submission Procedures
During the course of the first week, the class reviewed the procedures for submitting work. Students who have been absent or have late/missing work should speak with their facilitators directly to have it checked off. Below is the procedure for submitting work that was discussed:
Most Daily Work: Students will show it directly to their facilitator, so instant feedback can be given and students can move onto the next step. This will be represented by a checklist in For All Rubrics.
Formative Work: Work that requires either verbal or written comments that helps prepare students for the summative assessment will require either submission through Google Classroom or a meeting with a facilitator.
Summative Work: Students will submit their summative assessment through For All Rubrics for ease of review and placement into the student’s portfolio.
Safety Agreement
Thanks to everyone who has submitted the safety agreement. Students need to submit this form before they can participate in any major science labs. Additional paper copies can be found in the science labs.
