Science Happenings: Inquiry Research Phase
Students have spent the better part of two weeks researching six different aspects of their selected topic. We started by understanding the history and present natures of the problems around their topic. Students began to tackle their problem by developing their idea of how they might solve it. Students combined present technologies, presented new ideas, and even thought of new alternatives that had not been considered. The class then moved its focus to breakthroughs that would need to happen for each student's idea to work and the potential trade-offs of the solution. Leaving the research phase, students should be very familiar with ideas around their topic and how they will present their information. All of these research graphic organizers can be found on Google Classroom for students and parents to review.
Next Steps: Research Essay and Website Design
Students will be using all of their research to develop a research essay and website. These two pieces will be used to go public with their ideas in small group presentations to peers, parents, and community members on Friday, December 22nd. In order for students to be successful building these two parts of the project, the science team has been encouraging students to stay current with their research to avoid the "snowball" effect. Please take a few minutes to review the checklists on For All Rubrics and your student's work on Google Classroom to understand the level of development that currently exists for your student's work.
