We are now a couple of weeks into the school year. The classes began by reviewing classroom expectations, signing safety contracts and taking a pre-assessment for our Claims, Evidence, and Reasoning standard. Over the past week and a half, the students have started out first unit on Genetics. We have reviewed how traits are passed from parents to offspring, how dominant and recessive traits show themselves, and discussed how this can lead to genetic disorders. Students have also spent some time working on a genetic disorder project of their choice (see assignment #4 in Google Classroom).
Where are We Going
We will spend the next week and half finishing up our short genetics unit before moving onto our evolution unit. Students will be modeling critters using pipe cleaners to show their understanding of trait inheritance by the end of the week. Students will also be finishing up their genetics projects and sharing them in class on Wednesday, Sept. 25th. The final assessment from genetics will be a model assessment and a multiple choice content assessment later next week into the next.
