Thank you to all parents who came and watched their students present their science fair findings. As we look to wrap up science fair before winter break, students will be completing the final component of the project, the Claims, Evidence, and Reasoning writing. The science team will spend winter break reviewing those writings and putting together the summative evaluations for the unit. Students will receive evaluations for their predictions (assignment #10), procedures (assignment #7), the Claims, Evidence and Reasoning writing (assignment #14), along with feedback from the judges on the website and presentation. When we return from winter break, our next science unit will focus on geological processes. Have a great winter break!
Wrapping Up Science Fair Reminders
We are now entering our last full week of work on our science fair projects. Students have finished their experiments and recorded their data. During this week, students will finish up their websites based off of the checklist in assignment #8. Students will also start to develop ideas for their presentation. During this process, students will consider the methods of presentation, the order in which they would share their information, and what materials they would provide to the judges. Toward the end of this week, the class will work on developing our Claims, Evidence, Reasoning (CER) skills based the data and evidence collected during the experimental phase. The CER will serve as another summative assessment for students. Students should leave this week with their website complete, presentation outlined, and CER started. When we return next week, students will spend Monday and Tuesday practicing and memorizing their presentations ahead of Wednesday’s judging. The presentation schedule for Wednesday has been shared with your student, so please ask them for which room and time they will present on Wednesday, if you wish to attend their presentation. We look forward to a solid end to the science fair before winter break.
