Wrapping Up Space Unit
Last week, students completed three assessments around key concepts from our space unit. The graphing, model, and multiple choice assessment allowed students to demonstrate their skills in a variety of different ways. We also took some time to share out our space projects that were completed over the course of the unit. Students reviewed their scores on Wednesday, February 17th in class along with completing a reflection for the unit.
The Start of Chemistry
We have now begun our fourth unit for the school year. Students have started their study of chemistry by reviewing key properties of elements, for instance their ability to be malleable, dense, soluble, and the various states of matter they can have at room temperature. These activities are building around our common theme for this unit of how properties of materials impact our choices for single use drinking containers. The unit will be lab / activity heavy, which means it is really important for students to avoid any “snowball” of missing work. Our unit will go for another 5 weeks and wrap up prior to spring break.
Students also learned about their chemistry project that will be woven throughout this unit. We discussed the general expectations of the project and the flexibility of work days to allow students opportunities to get caught up on class work should they fall behind, while keeping them on track to complete the project. Students will start to complete the first steps of their project next week.
For All Rubrics / Google Classroom
The science classes continue to use For All Rubrics and Google Classroom as communication tools of student progress. All summative scores from the space unit have been posted to For All Rubrics and are ready for review. We plan on continuing to use Google Classroom throughout the unit to share student work completion of the various activities completed in class. Thank you for continuing to reflect with your student on their day to day work and encouraging them to stay on task.
