We are excited to start this new school year and meet our new and returning learners. We wanted to introduce ourselves, our spaces, and some of the things we think will be helpful for you to know in these first few weeks.
The four math teachers will be using Google Classroom to distribute, collect, and provide feedback on assignments. We will be using Google Slides (powerpoint presentation) to share the daily/weekly agenda; this will be shared via Google Classroom. We will be using ForAllRubrics (FAR) to update the students and families on completed and missing work and their performance on summative assessments. We post this newsletter monthly near the end of the month.
We have already invited all our students to our Google Classrooms. Please make sure your student accepts this invitation so they know what to do on the first day of school: Tuesday, September 1st!! This will be helpful for all students, both the virtual and face-to-face.
There are four math teachers and a math interventionist here at STEM. Read the descriptions below to get to know them a little bit!
Hello everyone! I am so excited to have you in class this year! This is my 7th year here at STEM, and 15th year of teaching overall. I teach Math 6A/7A (with Mr. Burton), Math 7, and Algebra I (with Ms. Grosskopf). Some of my favorite pastimes include spending time outside with my husband and two kids biking, hiking, swimming, and camping. Additionally, in the past few months, I have picked up some new hobbies including sewing and creating a vegetable garden. While doing so, I also learned how to make fresh salsa and pasta sauce!
Welcome Back Everybody!! Soooo happy to be back AT school and working with our STEM students. I have been at STEM since its inception 11 years ago; having taught in Waukesha my entire career (37th year) yikes?! I teach Math 6A/7A (w/ Mrs. Hemphill), and two sections of Math 6. If you’re a family from our sister school Randall STEM, you may be familiar with my daughter Abby (Miss Burton) who is a teacher there! I also have a son, Eric, that works for NML in Milwaukee. My wife, Kim, works for Elmbrook Family Dentistry. In my spare time I enjoy bicycling, renovating projects, and motorcycling.
The 2020-2021 School Year is here! It might be a little different, but we are excited to begin the journey. This is my 6th year at STEM and my 11th year teaching overall. I teach two sections of Math 8 as well as High School Geometry and Algebra 2. Outside of school, I love sports, running, biking, singing, and spending time with my wife and two daughters (who are 4 and 8 years old). For students who knew me from previous years, you may notice that I have lost about 75 pounds (and feel great).
Welcome back STEM families! I am so excited to be in the same space as our learners again, and meet some of the new faces! I teach Math 7, Math 8A, and Algebra 1 (with Mrs. Hemphill). The Math 7 and Math 8A are taught in Room 114, and Algebra 1 in Space 111/Niebler Nook. I have been with the Waukesha STEM Academy for 7 years, with 2020-2021 being my 8th year. I’m originally from Illinois, but attended undergrad and graduate school at Carroll University right down the road (it’s like I never left). I currently live in downtown Milwaukee. I play a ton of competitive volleyball. I’m out riding my bike along the lakefront or any section of the Oak Leaf Trail. Let’s get Fall 2020 started!
