Welcome to Future Cities
Your student has chosen to be part of the Future Cities STEaM project here at Saratoga during the first semester of this year. The Future Cities team is excited to get started on our challenge for this year of developing a resilient city that can bounce back from a natural disaster. We are specifically going to be studying how to enhance the power grid of the city of the future. Students will be working in teams of four to complete this project and assisting each other in developing the four deliverables of the project. In order to assist these teams, students will be with one of three facilitator groups during the course of the project. Please feel free to ask your student who their Future Cities teachers are for the project.
Due Date Calendar for 2018
Future Cities students have access to our due date calendar for the project to help them track and maintain the pace of their work. Each team will have assistance in helping to break up the project into manageable pieces, but we have found that parents appreciate the scope and sequence of the project, so they can reflect with their students on their progress.
Start Saving Recyclables
One way that families can start helping their students will be in saving recyclables. The model portion of the project, which we will start later, requires the use of recyclable materials to build. Successful teams during this phase of the project have a wide variety of materials with which to work. Students will be assigned bins in the coming weeks when they can start bringing these recyclables to school.
