SIM City Play and Reflection Completion
Students finished playing SIM City as part of the Future Cities experience. The SIM reflector will work with the SIM player to complete the the 2nd reflection before submitting their final reflections on Monday, November 13th. The SIM City reflection represents 60 points and will be assessed by the STEM Forward judges in the coming weeks.
Scale / Model Launch
Teams have been working to define the scale of their city. The first step has required students to determine their population, size of their smallest and largest buildings, and what services they plan to offer in their city. Part of our field trip last week focused on scale to give students an approximation of the size of buildings appropriate for a population size. Ultimately, students will need to define a scale of 1 inch = x feet.
Before teams will be allowed to start working on the model the follow steps need to be completed, so teams have an adequate background knowledge to begin the model building process. Once teams complete these expectations, they will start building the model.
1) Teams need to have completed the SIM City reflections, both one and two.
2) Teams should be about 80% done with the research essay.
3) Teams need to construct the smallest and tallest building in their city to scale.
4) Teams should have a bin full of recyclables to use to build their model.
Research Essay
The essay writer and essay support person have spent the past several weeks using all the research their team collected to complete each part of the essay. Teams should be completed with the essay by Wednesday, November 15th, so their mentors can review and give feedback for revision prior to final submission on Friday, December 1st.
