STEM - SARATOGA CLUB MEETING FOR STUDENTS
WELCOME TO THE CLUB!
WSA - SARATOGA CAMPUS IS HOSTING A LIVE WEBEX SESSION ON MONDAY, TO DISCUSS ALL UPCOMING CLUB IDEAS AND PLANS. THIS WILL BE THE FIRST OF MANY MEETINGS, SO IF YOU MISS THIS MEETING, THERE WILL BE MORE... DON'T STRESS!
WE WILL BE MEETING ON MONDAY, JANUARY 4 (2021) ~ AT 9:10AM. IF YOU HAVE A PRIOR ENGAGEMENT DURING THIS TIME, PLEASE CONNECT WITH YOUR TEACHER AND COMMUNICATE YOUR WISH TO ATTEND THIS MEETING FOR 15 MINUTES. I WOULD RECOMMEND ALSO UTILIZING YOUR CONNECT TIME FOR ANY EXAMS OR OTHER ITEMS, AS THAT PROVIDES AN ADDITIONAL 30 MINUTES.
VERY IMPORTANT:
There are two BIG THINGS AT PLAY here when it comes to our CLUBS...
One, being the fact that we want students to be interactive on this conversational meeting, as well as all CLUB DAYS.
The second, is that we want to respect the space and atmosphere of others, who are either in other clubs, or no clubs at all (they are working on other academics and need focus-time).
That being said, I’m going to bump this meeting to Monday, when everyone is at home. What this also provides us with, is a chance to think about how the actual CLUB will run then, as we will run into the same conversations and needing to figure out the when and where, to respect others' space and peace & quiet.
THANK-YOU AND SEE YOU THERE!
YOU MAY LOG-INTO THE MEETING BY CLICKING ON THE WEBEX LINK, TO JOIN THE CHAT:

CHECK OUT STEM IN ACTION!
Throughout the year, several families have inquired about how library books are selected for our students at STEM. Without getting too granular, our team of Library Media Specialists annually review hundreds, if not thousands of texts, titles, and genres each year through professional resources including School Library Journal, Booklist, and Cooperative Children's Book Center (CCBC). Out of these, age-appropriate texts are selected and purchased for each school and utilized and read throughout the year (and beyond). At STEM - Saratoga, for example, there are texts such as the Young Authors collection, which are geared for students who are "Young Authors" and in their middle school years. As they get older, the text selection and offerings will differ slightly, as they mature and ready themselves for more mature content and more difficult, rigorous reading selections.
Part of working with our families on keeping everyone in the loop, is to make available the texts that are present for our students, so we have placed a link to our SDW "Card Catalog" on our STEM - Saratoga website, which is called Destiny Discover and is online. This is a web-portal for our students to search for a book based on title, author, genre, etc. and we wanted our parents to be able to see the texts that their students are able to check-out. If at any time, there is a text or a subject matter that you feel is not appropriate for your student(s), please do not hesitate to reach out and let us know, so that we may have a conversation and come up with a solution that works out in the best interest of the student, but also falls under the wishes of the parent(s). Many of these texts may serve as a great learning opportunity for our students [and parents], so we want to make sure that parents are aware of what their student is reading both in and out of school.
Please check out the LINK to the online resources and as always, please reach out with any inquiries.
Thanks so much!
